We're working to package up Drupal as a standalone Drupal installation that's turn key on a virtual server. We already do something similar for our hosted services (we run dozens of servers full of Drupal XEN-based VPS on our infrastructure).
What we're thinking about doing is providing a speed optimized image on XEN. VMWare and Parallels ports can be provided if people want it. That's the purpose of this post.
Also, we plan on providing it on CentOS. But I know Ubuntu and Debian - again if there is demand.
